For every seeker of history and nature there are those people who love to combine these with the delights of physical exertion, to a greater or lesser extent, in a beautiful environment.
The geography around the pre-Alps of the Dolomites offer unparalleled opportunities for those who wish to stretch their legs with hikes into the high and demanding moonscapes of the famous 'calcificato' peaks. Of course there are abundant choices depending upon how one is feeling, indeed a gentle walk up secret valleys populated with salamanders, mountain goats, butterflies and the subtle beauty of Alpine flowers is nearby, and all grades of walks in-between.
For those who prefer to connect to the rarefied atmosphere of cycling then it is undeniable that this area offers extraordinary experiences and challenges for the lycra-clad enthusiasts. Cycling is the most popular sport in the region and with good reason. It is possible to satisfy the appetites of keen and serious cyclists alike with, for example, rides along the River Brenta, or the gently rolling hills around Asolo and Valdobbiadine. Monte Grappa ("tu sei la mia padria") offers nine ascents up to 1755m of varying degrees of difficulty: all of them enough to satisfy the urge to push the limits. There is also the high plateau of Asiago nearby. Indeed in less than 90 minutes you could be starting off on a circuit that takes in 4 cols (Pale di San Martino) among some of the finest scenery in the world.
